Han Kjøbenhavn combines simple Scandinavian designs with wide, boxy cuts and eye-catching graphics that are reminiscent of the skater and street scene.
In 2008, the brand began with a creative range of glasses and sunglasses and today produces fashion, accessories and shoes for men and women. The aim of the two founders was to create high-quality pieces at an affordable price. Today, however, Han Kjøbenhavn belongs to the luxury segment. One inspiration is the simple and innovative aesthetics of Danish architecture and furniture. Han Kjøbenhavn embodies Danish design culture, which at first glance is less suited to street fashion. Scandinavian fashion usually works without patterns and large graphics or bright colors are rarely used. But it is precisely these contrasting elements that the two designers combine in their collections. Many of the pieces are decorated with flashy patterns and motifs and some also have colorful color accents.
Han Kjøbenhavn produces seasonally and was named one of the most famous Scandinavian menswear labels by GQ in 2014. They present their collections every year at Copenhagen Fashion Week. The brand is still very successful today and has also worked with several other companies in the past. This includes in particular the sports brand Puma, which has already collaborated with the Danish label several times. Sportswear meets Scandinavian style in these collections. In addition, coats, trackpants and T-shirts were released in 2018, combining business and sport. The collaboration also resulted in two Puma sneakers. On the one hand, a new version of the Puma TSUGI sneaker with a mesh design that contrasts with the leather inserts and on the other hand, the two brands released the Puma x Han Kjøbenhavn suede made of suede with an innovative lace-up closure. In addition to these models, Puma and Han Kjøbenhavn also dropped the “Breaker Mid Sneaker Asphalt”, a silver-gray shoe with laces that are reminiscent of hiking boots. They also reworked the Puma Clyde in 2017 with a white-beige design. In 2019, this partnership resulted in the “Alteration PN-1” in a yellow version, a dark grey/black version, a light gray version with taupe-colored tread and a silver-colored mesh version.
Further collaborations took place with cap manufacturer New Era and American shoe manufacturer Teva. Teva is primarily known for outdoor sandals, which initially have nothing to do with cool street fashion. Together with Han Kjøbenhavn, in 2018, they created a collection with flat sandals, a monochrome color palette and simple design. The shoes also have cork details that embody the minimalism of the Danish brand.
The last collaboration between Han Kjøbenhavn, which produced a shoe, took place in August 2020 together with the Danish manufacturer of safety shoes AIRTOX. They designed two models that are reminiscent of the Danish working-class suburbs and combine high fashion with functional clothing. The result was two lo-top sneakers made of microfiber in the colors green and black, which were fitted with a reinforced toe cap. The inner lining is made of mesh and the sole of the shoe is transparent and underlines the look of a workwear shoe.
A special feature of the menswear label is that Han Kjøbenhavn only shows older models who do not meet typical beauty standards and therefore stand out. The brands' campaigns are therefore always very special and stand out of line.
