Butter Goods is a streetwear and skate apparel brand from Perth, Australia. It was founded in 2008 by Garth Marino and Matt Evans. While Australia is actually associated with natural wonders, animals, beaches and purest nature, the founders have focused on the country's huge skate scene and set themselves the goal of creating authentic fashion for skaters.

Evans and Marino are passionate skateboarders themselves and came up with the founding idea when they noticed that although there are more and more skate brands in the streetwear industry, hardly any are managed by skaters themselves. They set out to create clothes that not only look cool but are also suitable for skating. The skateboard culture of the 90s and 2000s is considered a clear inspiration, as the founders grew up during this time. The cuts of her pieces are wide, with large prints and are usually made of heavy fabrics. Butter Goods clothing is casual and comfortable and combines music, skating and sportswear with a vintage character. It is important for the brand not to follow current fashion, but to the current skate culture.

Butter Goods repeatedly releases smaller capsule and signature collections in collaboration with other brands or with skater boarders such as Morgan Campbell. The collections mainly include wide T-shirts, baggy jeans, bucket hats, beanies and, of course, printed hoodies. Socks and overshirts are also represented. In addition to large prints and the washed out look, some pieces also feature flame graphics.

The brand has also already collaborated with two well-known sports shoe manufacturers and reworked classic models. A collab between DC Shoes and Butter Goods appeared in 2019. DC is an American sports brand that is primarily known in the skate scene. DC has been producing skate shoes and BMX, snowboard and motorcycle clothing since 1994. Both brands share the same values and dedicated their first collaboration to the 90's skate kids. Together, they reworked one of the most famous DC models: the Kalis OG. In line with this collaboration, a video was released on YouTube in October 2019 showing Josh Kalis, a well-known skateboarder, and the guys from Butter Goods skating in Chicago. They're wearing the new shoes and the video perfectly conveys the 90s vintage vibes. Backed by rap music from this period, viewers get a feel for what DC and Butter Goods embody. Josh Kalis himself said that he always saw Chicago as a skater town and was able to let off steam there with the Butter Goods crew. In addition to Kalis OG, several pieces of clothing also appeared as part of this collection. The Kalis OG has a white leather upper which is punctuated by overlays in various shades of blue. There is a reflective butter logo on the back of the shoe and the sole is made of rubber. The DC and Butter Goods logo can be found in red on various parts of the shoe.

Butter Goods had another major collaboration with the sports brand Puma last year. As early as June 2021, the Basket VTG was released in cream, just in time for summer. The outer material is made of corduroy and velvet and the silhouette is nostalgic and simple. There are light grey suede stripes on the side and the Puma logo is in black and white under the green butter logo on the toe of the shoe. The second part of this drop was released in September 2021. The collection, which consisted of clothing and four shoe models, was inspired by sports commercials from the late nineties and early 2,000 meters. In an interview, founder Garth Mariano said: “The late 90s/early 2000s were full of strong colors, wide cuts and technical fabrics and workmanship. We've mixed that influence with some understated, classic styles.” Together, they released two Basket models and two Slipstream-Lo models. The Puma Basket was available in orange and blue, while the Slipstream was made of black and white smooth leather and with green details. The Slipstream Lo model is a basketball classic from the eighties.

Butter Goods creates looks that are reminiscent of the beginnings of the skate scene. They convey the charm of the nineties and thus commemorate a time when street culture began with hip-hop, skating and basketball.
