New Balance and WTAPS have significantly expanded their collaborative output over the past year. Now they return with their next joint project: A Black/White-Black Cement take on the Made in USA 1300 Runner, applying WTAPS’ pared-back approach to the classic silhouette.

With its 2025 Special Release, New Balance brought the 1300 back into focus, expanding the lineup beyond the classic JP edition with additional colorways.
Originally introduced in 1985 as a technologically advanced running shoe, the 1300 quickly became a cult favorite, particularly in Japan, where its meticulous construction and “Made in USA” provenance have long been held in high regard.

Because demand remained strong, New Balance brought back the 1300JP in 1995 and has released updated editions every five years ever since. Each drop draws heightened attention across the sneaker community.
Now WTAPS turns to the retro runner, bringing its stripped-down approach to the Made in USA silhouette.

WTAPS’ version is rendered almost entirely in jet black, built on a leather-and-mesh base. The only contrast sits at the heel: A white heel tab with black WTAPS branding breaks up the all-black look.
