Puma x Black Forest Slipstream Lo "Kuckuck" Release Information
On August 12, 2023, the first model of a three-part sneaker collection created by global sports company PUMA in collaboration with Schwarzwald Tourismus will be released. The limited edition found its inspiration in the icons of the Black Forest and is thus dedicated to a tourist region for the first time.
The PUMA x Black Forest Slipstream Lo "Cuckoo" kicks things off, with the Black Forest cuckoo clock as its theme.
In addition to the Bollen hat (Bollenhut), Black Forest gâteau and deep green forests in a fabulous natural landscape, the cuckoo clock is considered a trademark of the Black Forest.
"Through the cooperation with PUMA, we can draw attention to Black Forest topics worldwide in an innovative way, which is a great opportunity that I find quite unique," says Hansjörg Mair, Managing Director of Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH.
"The Black Forest cuckoo clock is a regional product with worldwide popularity that is wonderfully suited as a theme for this. After all, it stands not only for love of one's homeland, tradition and craftsmanship, but also for creativity and inventiveness, which are reflected in the Black Forest in many areas."
Anja Egger, Head of Marketing Central Europe at PUMA says about the cooperation:
"The collaboration between us as a traditional sports company and the Black Forest as a vacation region with so many internationally known icons just fits. We are therefore very pleased to release the Black Forest in selected sneaker boutiques in the year of our 75th anniversary with the three-part Black Forest Sneaker Collection."
The cuckoo clock - an unusual timepiece from the Black Forest
Time is an elementary concept used to sequence events, determine their duration and indicate the distance between them. In its dimension, the past occurs through the present into the future.
"Cuckoo, cuckoo" has been calling out from the Black Forest clock since the middle of the 18th century. Since that time, craftsmen have been making clocks with a bird that appears on the hour and sounds the unmistakable call. The original form of today's cuckoo clock was decorated with elaborate carvings and pine cone weights and gradually developed into a landmark of today's vacation region.
In the heyday of the cuckoo clock, there were 5000 small factories and production sites for the Black Forest icon in the Black Forest. Today, there are still eight manufactories that maintain the traditional clockmaking craft and whose movements with the "Original Black Forest Cuckoo-Clock" seal of quality are among the export hits of the Black Forest.
The cheerful call of the cuckoo not only delights nature-loving animal lovers, but also plays a role in art and culture time and again. The fact that the bird has also found its way into the cuckoo clock is testimony to the inventiveness of the Black Forest people.
The cuckoo calls two notes in a recurring sequence that can be easily imitated with two wooden whistles built into the clock.
Nature exhibits many cyclical patterns that are highly dependent on time. These include day and night cycles, which are determined by the Earth's rotation; seasonal cycles, which result from the Earth's orbit around the Sun; and lunar phases, which result from the Moon's orbit around the Earth.
For over 300 years, the cuckoo clock has been the only clock in the world that so beautifully combines time and nature. Every hour on the hour, the call of the Cuculus canorus sounds millions of times around the world.
This icon of the Black Forest has many lovers and collectors. In addition to the classic cuckoo clocks, there are now a whole range of modern forms that have become internationally sought-after lifestyle objects in recent years with contemporary design and are sold in different variations of the cuckoo clock in stores around the globe.
Model description / Puma x Black Forest Slipstream Lo "Cuckoo”
Analog in the digital age, the PUMA x Black Forest Slipstream Lo "Cuckoo" found its inspiration in this unusual Black Forest timepiece.
The Puma molded strip has been given a special shingle look and texture, often seen on the roofs of the cuckoo clock.
The tongues of a pair house two animals at once: Behind the flap of the left shoe welcomes us the eponymous cuckoo, and on the right - Puma's jumping feline predator.
Slipstream lettering is emblazoned in gold letters on the lateral side of the model.
On the heel, there is another allusion to details of a cuckoo clock in the form of diamond-shaped punch-outs. Each shoe comes with a small peg tag that, of course with a different weight, drive the movement of a real cuckoo clock.
Present in all important moments of sneaker history: The Slipstream was released in the 1987 as a competitive basketball shoe for the serious basketball player when sneaker culture started to kick-off.
Being re-issued in the 2000s, it gained a reputation as the “The Beast” with various crazy colorways. Now it is re-imagined and slightly updated for today’s consumer but staying true to its 1980s basketball heritage.
Accompanying the release there is also an exclusive PUMA x Black Forest cuckoo clock to be won at selected premium sneaker stores.
This highly limited edition was produced by the cuckoo clock manufacturer Rombach und Haas from Schonach in the Black Forest. The PUMA application was realized by the artist "NaNa the Artist".
In addition, each PUMA x Black Forest Slipstream Lo "Cuckoo" comes with a miniature craft set of a cuckoo clock in Puma design.
