From cuckoo clocks and Black Forest cake to endless nature and the famous Bollenhut hat – few regions in Germany are as rich in globally recognized cultural icons as the Black Forest.

With the PUMA x Black Forest Collection, these icons have been reinterpreted across four drops – merging local traditions with contemporary sneaker culture.

“Through our partnership with PUMA, we’ve already succeeded in making the Black Forest internationally visible in a unique and creative way with the first three models of the PUMA x Black Forest Sneaker Collection,” says Hansjörg Mair, Managing Director of Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH.

“That’s why we’re especially proud to round off the series with the traditional Bollenhut — a piece that’s far more than just an accessory. It’s a symbol of home, heritage, and regional identity — and simply had to be part of this collection.”

Originating in the late 18th century, the Bollenhut is part of the traditional festive attire worn in Gutach, Kirnbach, and Reichenbach in the Kinzig Valley. Its most striking feature: 14 handcrafted wool pom-poms – eleven visible and three hidden for structure.

The color of the pom-poms signals relationship status: red for unmarried women, black for married.

Today, the Bollenhut is not only a traditional garment but also a pop cultural icon of the Black Forest – alongside the cuckoo clock, Black Forest cake, and timber-framed houses.

This limited-edition PUMA Super Team model transforms the Bollenhut into a refined sneaker design — rooted in tradition, reimagined with style.

The sneaker features a black velvet upper that sets the stage for intricate embroidery, inspired by the delicate detailing of traditional Black Forest costumes.

Tonal suede overlays accent the toe box, heel, and Formstrip, with the latter standing out in soft cream — a subtle nod to festive attire.

A standout detail is the red tongue, referencing the iconic red pom-poms of the Bollenhut. A cut-out detail featuring eleven semi-circles alludes to the hat’s visible wool elements.

Each pair comes with two interchangeable pom-pom charms — one in red, one in black — reflecting the traditional color code for marital status. A postage stamp-style patch on the tongue shows a dancing couple in regional dress, signed off with a warm “Greetings from the Black Forest.”

Inside, the insole features a large-scale Bollenhut artwork and co-branding from PUMA and Schwarzwald Tourismus.Golden accents, including the lateral “Super Team” lettering and heel branding, add an elevated finish.

Originally launched in 1982 as a handball shoe, the PUMA Super Team has grown into a lifestyle classic.

Its sleek silhouette, retro sole, and timeless proportions have made it a versatile go-to with strong visual identity.

True to its name, this version brings together a “Super Team” in every sense — uniting PUMA’s design legacy with the craftsmanship and cultural richness of the Black Forest.
