From the first letterhead of the early post-war years to global campaigns and the creation of iconic sneaker models: The sports company PUMA is publishing its unique design story together with OPTIK BOOKS.
‍
‍
In 1948 Rudolf Dassler founded a sports shoe factory in a small town in Germany with just a few employees. In the following decades, PUMA developed into one of the most important sports and lifestyle brands in the world.
‍
‍
'PUMA — THE GRAPHIC HERITAGE' reconstructs the graphic development of the sports company with illustrations and images from the company archive. Around 1,000 illustrations on 288 pages provide exclusive insights into PUMA's visual heritage.
‍
‍
“PUMA has continued to develop over the past 75 years,” says Helmut Fischer, PUMA's Senior Advisor General Management and founder of the company archive. “The book takes readers on a visual journey through the past and shows how a local sports shoe factory became a world-famous brand. ”
This month, the book 'PUMA — THE GRAPHIC HERITAGE' was presented in Berlin.
‍
‍
“The combination of sport and design is extremely exciting,” say authors Jens Müller and Katharina Sussek from OPTIK BOOKS, a renowned publishing house that publishes books on graphic design and visual culture. “Together with the PUMA Archive, we have created a work that will not only inspire design lovers but also sports fans all over the world. ”
‍
‍
With almost 1,000 illustrations and photos, 288 pages provide readers with an insight into the special relationship between sport and design.
Everything from the first letterhead from the early post-war years to global campaigns to the creation of sneaker lines such as TRINOMIC or DISC and innovative typography for soccer jerseys is on display.
