With ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT, ASICS and Miyake Design Studio (MDS) launch a joint footwear project that takes the human foot as its starting point to develop new silhouettes and constructions.

Rather than leaning on classic retro references, the focus is on an approach that consistently brings together sports engineering, material logic, and design DNA.

The first result of this collaboration is called HYPER TAPING and was first revealed as part of the IM MEN Spring/Summer 2026 show in Paris.

In terms of design, the model translates the principle of athletic taping into a sneaker upper: Wide, elastic bands wrap around the foot, stabilizing movement while creating clean, graphic lines.

The foundation is a reinterpreted wrestling outsole, designed for secure grip and stability, which extends up into the lower part of the upper.

The setup is complemented by a newly developed last that widens the originally tight wrestling shape, making the shoe better suited for everyday wear. Underfoot, a responsive SpEVA midsole paired with an OrthoLite insole provides comfort, while an upper built from layered leather and mesh zones combines a functional look with material depth.

Thematically, the project also connects to a core ASICS design element: The ASICS Stripes, whose origins date back to 1966. Initially, the structure was designed to protect the Achilles area and reinforce the upper.

MDS builds on this functional principle and reinterprets it as a “taping” concept in HYPER TAPING.

The ASICS x Issey Miyake HYPER TAPING will release on January 22 and will then be available at selected retailers such as AFEW, Asphaltgold and BSTN.
