Ahhhh the tale of Doobie, once a humble skateboarder from a small French village, now king of the high seas with his own colourway of the Vans Skate Old Skool.

This isn’t your average Old Skool. This is the Doobie Skate Old Skool Net – a myth-worthy rework of the skate icon.

Like its namesake, there is more to this sneaker than meets the eye:

‍
A hidden mesh storage pocket in the tongue for small “treasures”, water-repellent suede with a “hairy” finish for harsher conditions, extra sturdy laces and reinforced 10oz canvas side panels — as durable as old fishing boots.

‍
Decorated with an embroidered sidestripe and a custom insole by Todd Francis, this is a real piece of modern folklore brought to life.
Since its first release, Doobie seems to have been haunted by luck — some call it magic, others just good timing.

Of course, an exceptional sneaker also needs an exceptional campaign. It was filmed by Jack Lammas and Ed Hubert, produced by Control Tower Productions — in a sleepy little fishing village in Cornwall.

There are Doobie's friends Harry Lintell, Helena Long, Notis Aggelis, Max Pack, Merryn Garner and Michael Boardman, who all have short cameos in the campaign video.

The Doobie Skate Old Skool Net is a milestone for Doobie — real name Victor Pellegrin — who has been part of the Vans family for 15 years now.

‍
Originally from Lyon, he now lives in Helsinki, where his love of fishing and perhaps also a bit of adventure has led him. As a passionate angler and skater, he embodies the spirit of Old Skool like no other.
