Following their acclaimed first collaboration in 2018, ASPHALTGOLD and ASICS return with a second joint release. On August 12, 2023, the ASICS x Asphaltgold EX89 Impromptu launches via the Asphaltgold online shop and app, in-store in Darmstadt, and at a special pop-up event in Frankfurt.

In their first collaboration, ASPHALTGOLD and ASICS laid the foundation with the GEL-DS Trainer Jugendstil – a design inspired by the (art) history of their shared hometown, Darmstadt.

Now, a basketball silhouette joins the story: the result is the EX89 Impromptu.

For the campaign, ASPHALTGOLD teamed up with German drummer Silvan Strauss to celebrate their shared passion for music and its deep connection to the world of sneakers and streetwear.

To mark the collaboration, Silvan Strauss produced an exclusive vinyl record, creating a modern take on the Impromptu. The record will be available free of charge with all in-store purchases of the EX89 in Darmstadt, as well as during the launch event in Frankfurt on August 12.

In this collaboration, Impromptu serves as a guiding principle – reflected in the design process through the thoughtful combination of diverse materials to create a harmonious whole.

‍

The EX89 Impromptu pairs a satin lining with a mix of nubuck, hairy suede, and soft leather on the upper. Subtle details like the Asphaltgold flag label on the outer right side and printed insoles highlight the court silhouette’s blend of complexity and ease.

The design is completed by the Impromptu logo on the insole – a visual thread that runs throughout the entire project. Staying true to its signature aesthetic, Asphaltgold combines a harmonious palette of cream tones, vintage pink, and glacier grey.

The ASICS SportStyle x Asphaltgold EX89 “Impromptu” is available on August 12th at Asphaltgold.
