Directed by New Zealand filmmaker Tom Gould, “This is Not a Boot: The Story of an Icon” tells the stories of the boat's humble beginnings as a waterproof leather work boot — a first in 1973 — to its bold takeover by the hip hop scene in New York City and global movements in Milan, London and Tokyo.

The film tells of the collaborations, developments, innovations and responsible design ethos that shape Timberland today and tomorrow.

The short film features interviews with cultural icons such as Jeff Staple, Angie Martinez, Ronnie Fieg, ASAP Ferg, Rakim, Fat Joe, Goldie, Takayuki Ohashi, Veneda Carter, Bircide, J-Ax and many others — a love letter, so to speak, to the boat's rich history and influence.

The film also features rare archival footage in which the son and grandson of founder Nathan Swartz talk about the original Yellow Boot and the brand and community it inspired.
