‍

With this creation, Bisso not only celebrates the heritage of the West Indies but also the strength and vitality of Caribbean women who form the backbone of local traditions.

‍

‍

‍

“Bondamanjak” is named after the famous Caribbean chili pepper, which is also known as habanero and is one of the hottest chilies in the world.

‍

‍

This choice is no accident: it symbolizes strength, intensity, and the courage to take on challenges with determination — qualities that characterize the women of the Caribbean and French Guiana.

‍

‍

‍

In addition to this culinary inspiration, Bisso has incorporated elements of Madras fabric into the design, which is considered a symbol of West Indian and Guyanese cultures.

‍

‍

This colorful fabric, which is often worn at traditional celebrations, stands for joie de vivre, cultural identity and the transfer of knowledge and customs over generations.

‍

“With the 'Bondamanjak' I wanted to pay tribute to my roots, but also to all Caribbean women who, like this chili pepper, rise to challenges with intensity and grace. Every detail of this sneaker tells a story— one of a rich culture, a strong identity, and a heritage that continues to be passed down.”

Every detail of the Saucony Shadow 5000 “Bondamanjak” has been designed to reflect the essence of Caribbean culture. The color palette includes strong shades that represent the various stages of maturation of Bondamanjak chili peppers, from green to yellow and orange to deep red.

‍

‍

The materials consist of a combination of suede, perforated suede and smooth leather, which provides an elegant and durable finish. Each pair includes a randomly arranged Madras pattern, making each version unique.

The insole features a Bondamanjak chili print. A particular tribute to the Caribbean Sea is the teal-blue lining, which is reminiscent of the crystal-clear water of Guadeloupe, which was once known as Karukera — “the island of beautiful water.”

The colorful outsole, a mix of red, blue, green and black, is inspired by the diverse landscapes of the Antilles. Two pairs of laces, one in teal blue and one in red, offer additional styling options.

A special box was designed to match this special sneaker. The wood-effect design features a lid decorated with Bondamanjak chilies in various colors — a symbol of the diversity of Caribbean nature.

Inside, the sneakers are wrapped in Madras printed tissue paper, which picks up traditional West Indian fabric.

The launch campaign for the “Bondamanjak” is accompanied by a video filmed in Guadeloupe during the famous “Fête des Cuisinières.”

With over 100 years of tradition, this festival celebrates local gastronomy and honors the women of the Caribbean, who are considered true guardians of culinary traditions.

The video conveys the essence of the project: an ode to culture, tradition and pride in Caribbean roots.

‍

The Saucony Shadow 5000 x Bisso “Bondamanjak” will be released on the 1st of March at 43einhalb & AFEW Store.
