PUMA and Palomo Spain have teamed up to design a collection that embraces team sports with a touch of retro while representing today's bold vision of gender fluidity.
The PUMA x Palomo Spain collection is inspired by the soccer stars of the 1970s and their glamorous life off the field. It combines the extravagant fashion approach of this decade with Palomo's characteristic, romantic and gender-neutral couture designs.
“My goal with this collaboration was to transfer our over-excited vibes to PUMA and at the same time step out of my comfort zone by designing sportswear.
That led me to subtly refer to Johan Cruyff, the ultimate soccer icon of the 70s, who is also the perfect embodiment of Palomo Spain aesthetics in sport,” says Alejandro Gómez Palomo, founder and creative director of Palomo Spain.
(Note: In case you're wondering who exactly Johan Cruyff was... we've included a video about the legendary Dutch soccer player and coach below.)
“It was wonderful to work with a company that had the tools and technology to do things in a way I can't in my studio and studio, because that allowed us to approach the collection in a much more technical way than usual,” he adds.
“The intersection of craft and technology is interesting because it's not obvious. Still, a highly technical production process was necessary to create the intricate embroideries and details that are Palomo's trademark.
These delicate graphic elements enhance the collection and bring the right balance to a classic, clear silhouette,” says Heiko Desens, Global Creative Director for PUMA.
With precise lines and timeless, soothing colors ranging from beige, white and light blue to navy blue, burgundy and vivid yellow, the gender-neutral collection, which spans 15 models, is rich in classic team sports references.
Highlights include a T7 tracksuit with a cotton and polyester bell bottom with the twisted PUMA x Palomo Spain logo embroidered on the piping. A football-inspired half-zip polo combines embroidery and jacquard, T7 nylon shorts go with classic T-shirts and terry tank tops, and a nylon coat and printed long-sleeved jersey top complete the ready-to-wear offering.
The shoes include the nostalgic weekend sneaker and the Nitefox loafer with an eye-catching trail-inspired outsole. The Nitefox is also available in a version with lace-up boots.
Accessories such as the two-tone grip bag, the burgundy crossbody clutch, an embroidered hat and a printed satin scarf, an integral part of the Palomo Spain collection, add the finishing touch.
“Palomo Spain's fashion is always warm and inviting, whether through the choice of colors, materials or references. The brand's cheerful ethos immediately appealed to us, and the sense of rebellion, rebellion against stereotypes and the celebration of one's own expression is also what PUMA stands for,” says Heiko Desens.
