The PUMA King franchise was established in 1966 with the Original King, a flagship performance style that has graced football’s most famous pitches, and the feet of some of the sport’s most beloved stars.
While Pelé laid the foundation for initial fame, the shoe's cult status continued to rise in the 1980s and 1990s thanks to players such as Yeboah, Völler and Matthäus. Thanks to the iconic, foldable tongue over the laces, the king indoor sneakers also became an integral part of youth soccer culture.
PUMA is now bringing back a highlight from the King family from the archive: The Puma King Indoor from 1999. Thanks to its versatility and comfort, the silhouette was also appreciated as a classic lifestyle shoe outside of sport.

The King Indoor crossed the limits of streetball cages and indoor courts and first became a subcultural status symbol and later a star of street style.
He became a favorite for individualistic youth across Europe, from Great Britain to Italy. It’s a shoe that means many things to many different people; your team on the local pitch, or your neighborhood crew at the club.

Later, German designer Jil Sander added her own spin to the silhouette that harmonized Sander’s signature minimal-chic aesthetic with the heritage of the King, marking one of the very first fashion-sport collaborations.
Production of the King Indoor was discontinued in 2015.

This year's PUMA King indoor campaign was captured by British iconic photographer Ewen Spencer, who is known for his photographs of youth and subcultures. As early as the early 2000s, a time when the PUMA King was particularly popular, he set new standards with his work.
