The adiZero Goukana draws direct inspiration from the legendary Adios Neftenga, an innovative performance running shoe from 2008.
Design elements from the original prototype — like its distinctive, optically shifting stripes — have been reimagined for the present day.

For years, the Neftenga existed only as a concept shoe — until its return in 2024 through a limited collaboration with Wales Bonner.
Now, the Goukana picks up that story, offering a fresh, style-forward continuation with a clear focus on the now.

The name “Goukana” comes from Japanese and translates roughly to “luxurious” or “plush.”
It was intentionally chosen as a tribute to the Japanese roots of the adiZero series — and especially to Toshiaki Omori, the legendary designer behind adidas’ original adiZero running line.
With its premium suede upper and meticulous craftsmanship, the Goukana truly lives up to its name.

Although the Goukana wasn’t developed as a running shoe, it still offers serious performance — thanks to adidas’ innovative Lightstrike cushioning system, the same responsive technology used in the brand’s elite marathon racers and high-performance basketball models.

It’s this technical crossover that makes the Goukana exceptionally suited for everyday wear — and appealing beyond the court, as seen on NBA star Jalen Green and NFL player Travis Hunter, who have already embraced the silhouette off-duty.

The eye-catching design, featuring a voluminous sole unit, is perfectly tuned to complement today’s wide-leg pants — making it an ideal match for current baggy silhouettes.
The upper blends premium suede, breathable mesh, and reflective silver synthetic elements.
One of its most striking features: the bold yellow colorway, which nods to the original Neftenga while drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of motorsport — seamlessly merging athletic heritage with modern street presence.

The Goukana was developed by the adidas Creative Team in Los Angeles, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich cultural mix and dynamic creative energy.
The launch is accompanied by a campaign that captures this distinct L.A. mindset — partnering with local cultural forces like Motoring While Black, a community platform for BIPOC car enthusiasts, and Fabrica de Rosas, an inclusive space for BIPOC cyclists.
Through these collaborations, authentic stories are told and the deep connection between product and community comes to life.
The adidas adiZero Goukana is available at select retailers such as Asphaltgold. Be sure to keep an eye on our Sneaker Releases for more.
