For more than two decades, the partnership between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto has pioneered a groundbreaking approach to avant-garde sportswear. In Fall/Winter 2023, Y-3 returns to present the third chapter of its year-long research.

The subversive label takes athletic iconography, silhouettes, and materials and recontextualizes them through Yohji Yamamoto’s design vision. Inspired by adidas’s inimitable athletic heritage, Y-3 builds upon the college-inspired motifs of past seasons in the Chapter 3 collection, placing them in an entirely new context.

Jackets, T-shirts, and hoodies feature a range of graphics in the style of vintage lettering, chain-stitch embroidery, chenille patches, puff prints, and knit patterns. A curated selection of quilted pieces, whose silhouettes are inspired by the adidas Originals Aloxe tracksuit, rounds out the apparel highlights with a range of jackets, vests, skirts, and pants.

The footwear collection remains true to its core concept with the Y-3 CENTENNIAL HI and the Y-3 CENTENNIAL LO, reinterpreting the silhouette of a classic athletic shoe but with a premium material composition.

In addition, the label continues its exploration of archived adidas Originals silhouettes by reinterpreting the Y-3 SUPERSTAR, the Y-3 MARATHON TR, and the Y-3 GAZELLE.

The collection is rounded out by a variety of eye-catching accessories, such as stylish bags, gym bags, backpacks, duffel bags, knit beanies, caps, and more.

After Yohji Yamamoto traversed his home country of Japan for the Spring/Summer 2023 campaigns, the seasonal story travels to adidas’s home country, Germany, to capture Berlin’s unique, energetic, and productive creative community.

The photos, moving images, and short films (linked below)—captured by local photographer Lengua and motion director Thyago Sainte—feature a series of enigmatic musical figures who call Berlin home.

The campaign features Nigerian-born producer, singer, and songwriter LA Timpa; British cult musician, rapper, and producer Tricky (his music is linked at the end of the article); the eclectic DJ and experimental musician Mobile Girl, the Korean producer and DJ Tobias (aka Why Be), the groundbreaking artist, designer, and musician Bill Kouligas, and the impressive DJ duo and co-founders of Kontinuum Productions, Dimitra and Soraya.

adidas Y-3 is available at AFEW-Store, Allike, Asphaltgold, SUPPA, and VooStore. Keep an eye on our Sneaker Release Calendar for these sneaker models.
