The brand with the three stripes and the DFB are unveiling a limited-edition anniversary collection today to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the German Football Association and their partnership.
The collection symbolizes the intense emotions and special moments that German soccer fans have experienced together and includes not only short- and long-sleeve versions of an exclusive anniversary jersey but also shorts, socks, and a range of culture wear.
The design of the anniversary jersey is based on the retro jersey from 1974, the year the German national team won the World Cup on home soil.
Both the color scheme and the silhouette of the 125th-anniversary jersey draw on the history of the DFB:
The jersey comes in classic white and black for the players, while the goalkeeper’s jersey is light blue.
The jersey is made of a pinstripe fabric and features cuffs, a round-neck collar, and a flag print on the back of the neck.
The chest of the jersey is adorned with the Trefoil logo and a specially embroidered crest commemorating the DFB’s 125th anniversary, inspired by the special plaque hanging at the association’s founding site in Leipzig.
The accompanying Culture Wear collection is inspired by the half-zip sweater worn by the sporting goods manufacturer’s founder, Adolf Dassler, in the famous photo featuring the first cleated soccer shoes, reflecting the rich history of their shared legacy.
Under the title “The Stuff of Legends,” adidas is releasing a campaign film today to showcase the anniversary jersey, bringing together former and current legends from the DFB’s 125-year history, including Thomas Müller, Florian Wirtz, Manuel Neuer, Jule Brand, Rudi Völler, and Nia Künzer.
The campaign honors the achievements of those heroes of German soccer who have accomplished great things while wearing the German jersey over the years, and whose impressive stories are woven into the fabric of the anniversary jersey. The short film was produced in collaboration with Jung von Matt SPORTS.
The collection was also showcased in an exclusive fashion-inspired photo shoot featuring several players for adidas Originals.
The DFB 125th Anniversary jersey is available starting today at select adidas stores as well as at select retailers such as 43einhalb, AFEW-Store, Asphaltgold, and HHV.
The jersey will be worn by the German men’s national team for the first time in the UEFA Nations League matches against the Italian national team.
The German women’s national team will take the field in the anniversary jersey for the first time in April as part of the UEFA Nations League.
