VEJA is a French shoe brand known for its ethically produced and environmentally sustainable sneakers. It was founded in 2005 by Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion and is headquartered in Paris, France.
What sets VEJA apart is its commitment to transparency, fair trade, and social responsibility. Its sneakers are made from organic and fair-trade materials, and the brand is dedicated to ensuring that its workers in Brazil—where the shoes are produced—are paid fairly.
The materials VEJA uses for its shoes include organic cotton grown by Brazilian farmers under fair working conditions and wild rubber from the Amazon, which is harvested sustainably. They also use recycled plastic bottles to create the mesh in some of their shoe models.
Despite its commitment to ethical production methods and sustainability, VEJA also strives to produce fashionable and trendy sneakers. Its designs are simple yet stylish and feature a distinctive, minimalist look that is popular with consumers around the world.
According to VEJA, the most eco-friendly sneakers are the ones we’re already wearing. This idea is at the heart of the “Clean, Repair, Collect” project, which VEJA launched about two years ago. We reported on it: VEJA Store Berlin Launches Shoe Repair Service.
The goal is to offer customers the option to have their sneakers and shoes cleaned and repaired so they last longer, or to collect them for a recycling project if they cannot be repaired. Currently, there are four VEJA shoe repair shops, where an average of 860 pairs of shoes are repaired each month.
