There aren’t too many places on this planet that offer both great snowboarding terrain and excellent surfing conditions, but the Norwegian coast is one of them. That’s why Vans embarked on two epic expeditions—on land and in the water.
The results of these trips are the short film “Arctic Roses,” which blends the worlds of snowboarding and surfing, as well as
the stunning accompanying imagery.
The team riders featured include Alek Oestreng, Arthur Longo, Bryan Iguchi, Enni Rukajärvi, Rene Rinnekangas, Severin van der Meer, and Wolle Nyvelt.
In search of “Arctic Roses”—a metaphor the crew uses for the quest for good snow and good waves—Vans reaffirms its connection to the elements, both in the mountains and at sea. The combination of splitboarding and cold-water surfing perfectly reflects the diversity of the landscape.
The landscapes offered by Norway’s majestic coastline are of epic proportions. This place, where the mountains literally drop into the sea, provided the perfect opportunity to showcase just how closely snowboarding and surfing are intertwined—and just how versatile the team riders are.
The team began its adventure in the Lofoten Islands, moved on to the Lyngen Alps, and ended the trip in Riksgrensen at the annual bank slalom—riding the quarterpipe under the midnight sun was the icing on the cake, rounding out the Arctic experience.
