Vans unveils the next chapter of the Premium Old Skool Music Collection—featuring groundbreaking artist and Vans brand ambassador Little Simz, as well as Vans skater Helena Long. The campaign highlights the influence this iconic silhouette continues to have on the music and skateboarding scenes today.

Inspired by the fusion of tradition and innovation, the Premium Old Skool Music Collection continues to inspire a new generation of cultural pioneers and shape the evolution of style, comfort, and self-expression.

The Style 36—now known as the Old Skool—was first released in 1977 and was the second skate shoe Vans ever produced. It was also the first model to feature the legendary Sidestripe, which remains Vans’ visual trademark to this day.

Originally designed for the pioneers of skateboarding, the Old Skool evolved far beyond the skate scene to become an icon—especially in the underground music scene.

Now, Vans is honoring this inseparable connection with the Premium Old Skool Music Collection, which includes three exclusive capsule collections inspired by different eras and genres of music.

The campaign was shot in Johannesburg, South Africa, during Little Simz’s visit for her headlining performance at the House of Vans. Together with Helena Long, she brought the campaign to life—behind the camera was Fenn O’Meally, a close friend and longtime collaborator of Simz.
Last week, Little Simz returned to the music scene with her new single “Flood.” She has officially been part of the Vans family since 2023 and, during that time, has released her own custom collection of Slip-Ons, participated in several campaigns, and performed on the House of Vans stage in South Africa.
The Old Skool Checkerboard that Little Simz wears in the campaign was designed to celebrate nonconformity and the boundless spirit that has defined the Old Skool since its inception.
Thanks to high-quality materials and modern construction, the Vans Premium Old Skool Build takes the iconic model to a new level—with improved cushioning, an optimized fit, and design details inspired by the Vans archives. The updated silhouette offers an even more seamless fit and 30% bio-based Sola Foam ADC insoles for all-day comfort. The Premium Build version also features glossy side panels, higher foxing tape, and retro branding reminiscent of Vans models from the ’90s.
The Premium Old Skool Music Collection (Checkerboard) is now available. You can find Vans at the following retailers: 43einhalb, AFEW-Store, Asphaltgold, Brooklyn, Sneakertwins, and SUPPA.
