Now, A$AP Rocky revisits a design from the 1990s and reinterprets it through his own creative lens. The A$AP Rocky x PUMA Suede ’94 combines details from the original model with references to New York street culture.

A$AP Rocky has worked with PUMA as Creative Director for more than three years. For his latest model, he looked to the nostalgia of the 1990s, reviving a version of the Suede closely tied to his own story and the culture that shaped him.

The A$AP Rocky x PUMA Suede ’94 features a padded tongue with raw edges, a woven retro label, and a slimmer tooling shape. Personal touches, including a gold-tone PUMA lace keeper and a custom shoebox, complete the design.

The most distinctive feature is the full retro PUMA logo on the quarter panel. According to PUMA, this detail has never appeared on any other version of the Suede, making the ’94 instantly recognizable.

A$AP Rocky’s choice of this version is closely tied to the year the original debuted. In 1994, New York stood at the intersection of hip-hop’s golden era, the rise of modern streetwear, and a gritty downtown skate scene. The Suede ’94 did not merely exist alongside these movements. It was part of the uniform.

“I remember when my mom bought me my first pair of suedes,” said A$AP Rocky.

“Growing up in New York and seeing Walt Clyde Frazier with his style and his PUMA suedes, they were the shoes. And now to be able to tap into that 90s nostalgia and bring them back with my own creative lens and special details, it’s great.

PUMA hasn't brought the '94 back since it dropped and reviving it stitch-for-stitch from the archive just felt right.”
