Nike and Hyperice are joining forces to take warm-up and regeneration to the next level.
The two brands, known for their innovations in serving athletes, have developed the Nike x Hyperice boot and vest — wearable technology designed to help athletes achieve their best performance during training and competition.
“Recovery is an important part of any athlete’s journey, but we’re hearing from athletes that this concept of ‘pre-covery’ is equally as important,” says Tobie Hatfield, senior director, Nike Athlete Innovation.
“The footwear and vest that we’ve developed with Hyperice help get the body ready for activity, whether you’re playing for a title or you’re on your feet a lot at work.”
The Nike x Hyperice Boot is a portable and mobile high-top sneaker that provides the feet and ankles of athletes with warmth and a dynamic air compression massage on request.
The shoe contains a system of double Normatec air chambers connected to thermal elements that distribute heat evenly over the entire shaft.
This combination is designed to transfer heat deep into the muscles and tissue in the foot and ankle, helping athletes move, perform and recover much faster.
To this end, the test athletes report that their feet and ankles feel freer and lighter — as if they had already completed their warm-up training before starting their usual routine.
Athletes can synchronize the heat and compression of both shoes at the push of a button or adjust the left and right sides individually.
There are three different compression and heat levels to choose from, which are powered by a battery in the insole of each shoe.
The Nike x Hyperice vest allows athletes to influence a variable in performance that they have not been able to control before: the environment.
The vest uses similar technology to the Hyperice X line of temperature contrast devices and uses thermoelectric coolers that provide instant heating and cooling without ice or liquid and allow athletes to tailor their body temperature precisely to their needs during warm-up and cooling down.
The vest contains thermal modules whose sensors automatically monitor and maintain body temperature.
An air chamber and pressure sensor in the vest adapt to the body by pushing the thermal modules inwards, increasing comfort while maximizing the effectiveness of heating and cooling technology.
“Taking care of my body has always been an important part of my preparation as a basketball player. That commitment is what has allowed me to maintain a high level of play for more than 21 years now,” says Nike athlete LeBron James.
“From the moment I tried the Nike x Hyperice boots and vest while they were still in development more than a year ago, I knew they were going to change the game for athletes’ warm-up and recovery.”
Athletes' opinions are critical to the continued development of shoes and vests, and Nike and Hyperice are committed to getting feedback from athletes as they incorporate the products into their training and recovery routines.
The brands will bring the Nike x Hyperice innovations to market at a later date and together they will continue to push the limits of what is possible for today's athletes.
“Since the inception of Hyperice, we have taken a lot of inspiration from Nike, from the care and innovation we put into our products to how we connect with the athlete,” says Anthony Katz, founder and president of Hyperice.
“This collaboration is the culmination of years of work between our two brands to deliver innovative footwear and apparel for the athlete with the goal of enhancing their performance and recovery. And this is just the start.”
