Nike is bringing back the KOBE 3 PROTRO, an iconic basketball silhouette remastered for the demands of today’s game.

At the same time, the model pays homage to Kobe Bryant and carries his legendary Mamba Mentality forward to the next generation of athletes.

Developed for modern hoopers, the KOBE 3 PROTRO delivers the complete package: comfort, traction, breathability, and responsiveness, all presented in a clean, all-white Halo colorway.

With this re-release, Nike is launching its most extensive Protro project to date. The court sneaker Kobe wore during his 2007/08 MVP season has been refined with new technologies, honoring a model ahead of its time and making it ready for the future.

Equipped for athletes who move with speed, precision, and control, the KOBE 3 PROTRO delivers an underfoot sensation built for the demands of today’s game.

A full-length Zoom Strobel replaces the smaller Air Zoom units previously placed in the forefoot and heel. Paired with the Cushlon 3.0 midsole, the setup provides maximum energy return, responsive court feel, and lightweight support.

The upper retains its classic basketball net inspiration but is now reinforced with mesh for enhanced containment, increased airflow, and a more breathable feel.

A reworked traction pattern ensures control during quick cuts, sudden stops, and explosive moves. Another distinctive detail comes in the form of new diamond accents on the upper and outsole, honoring Kobe’s eldest daughter Natalia, whose middle name is Diamanté.

The KOBE 3 PROTRO was shaped by insights from athletes who played in the original as well as from a new generation of hoopers accustomed to modern technologies.

A rigorous testing phase with both female and male athletes reflects the uncompromising spirit of Kobe’s Mamba Mentality and has resulted in a shoe built for serious players across a wide range of styles.

“It’s the first time we’ve overhauled the outsole, midsole and upper together in a Protro,” says Jeni Takekawa McDonald, Kobe Footwear Product Director.

“We listened to wear-test feedback and made real updates. This is a smarter, sharper, better version of an already strong performer.”

The all-white look marks the third iteration of the Halo colorway since 2023, once again releasing on Kobe’s birthday, August 23. At the same time, Nike celebrates his legacy in Los Angeles with the Mamba League Invitational, one of the most competitive youth basketball tournaments in the country.

This year, approximately 70 young athletes who embody Kobe’s mentality were selected to train at Nike Academy and compete in the Invitational — a testament to their drive, discipline, and uncompromising will to win.
