With the 991v2, New Balance presents the first shoe in the series designed and produced in the UK. The new version of the classic with an adapted look and FuelCell technology provides an unmistakable design.
A pair of 991v2 just taken off the assembly line is the main protagonist of the new balance 991v2 release video. In the film, the pair of sneakers embark on a journey from the Flimby factory to Milan to their recipient, star chef and New Balance enthusiast Massimo Bottura. In addition to Bottura, other New Balance lovers are also represented in the clip, such as musician Loyle Carner.

From the streets of Milan to an international classic — the 991 as a symbol of timeless elegance
With the film, New Balance honors Italy's special relationship with 991. Originally designed as a running shoe, it became a lifestyle symbol on the streets of Milan in the early 2000s. From the Italian fashion capital, the trend spread across the country. His popularity reached its peak when he was named Shoe of the Year at the renowned Pitti Uomo fashion fair. Away from the mainstream and without online sales, it was Italy's charming boutiques that made him a cult figure. Today, the 991 represents first-class design and quality across Europe.

Sam Pearce, New Balance Creative Design Manager for Made in UK: “Only a few shoes have as big a cultural impact in Europe as the 991, which has continued to be one of our most popular models since its launch in 2001. More than 20 years after the original release, we've now decided to update this classic. ”
‍
‍
“Our idea is: Evolution instead of revolution. It's important to stay true to the original design, but at the same time to recognize which features should be refreshed. The balance between the two is the key to a successful successor model that does not lose sight of the special DNA of the original shoe. The 991v2 merges innovation and tradition and brings together all the key elements to make this shoe the next classic.”

Classic and modern in harmony — the 991v2 has an adapted look
Since its introduction in 2001, the 991 has stood for timeless quality. As the first 99X model of the new millennium, the original 991 redefined the standard for modern running shoe design. With the MADE in UK 991v2, this tradition is continued and the silhouette is further developed.

‍
The classic suede and mesh upper, complemented by synthetic accents, preserves the characteristic look of the 991v1, but has an even slimmer profile. A particular highlight is the continuous FuelCell cushioning, which promises improved comfort. Proven technologies such as ABZORB and ENCAP complete the design.
‍
‍
The carefully reworked design elements not only offer visual enhancements, but also noticeably increase comfort. Fine adjustments in shape perfectly highlight the fine suede leather, while the blue-green ABZORB SBS features set accents. For the first time, the word “Made in England” is emblazoned on the tongue of the shoe as an homage to the production location.
The 991v2 in gray (U991GL2) will be available worldwide from October 27. Keep an eye on our Sneaker release calendar.
By the way, version 2 of the MiUK 991 was first presented earlier this month with the release of New Balance x Stone Island U991SD2.
