Converse has hired Brooklyn-based jewelry and accessories designer Martine Ali, French fashion designer Isabel Marant, and Chinese-born and London-based menswear designer Feng Chen Wang to expand the brand's boundaries.
Every designer is known for always breaking new ground. As the cornerstone and inspiration for the new project, Converse provided the well-known Chuck Taylor silhouette.
‍
‍
Martine Ali is the first to present her version of the new Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge with an angular midsole as the heart of the collection.
This model from the De Luxe family is almost four centimeters high and features an asymmetrical, square toe cap and a leather upper that echoes the design language of the Chuck Taylor All Star.
‍
‍
Martine was inspired by the silhouette of wading boots and has finally found an expression of the De Luxe Wedge that is both transformative and sophisticated.
Unlike the other models in the Converse portfolio, Martines offers the option of wearing it in two different variants - with and without gaiters.
‍
‍
The silhouette is synonymous with New York styling and comes in all black with studs on the outer material. This is reminiscent of Martine's typical metallic surfaces.
The adjustable and breathable leggings attach to the studs and feature minimal co-branding, full-length zippers and wax laces.
‍
‍
“As a designer, I create articles that enable wearers to also be creators,” says Martine. “With the wedge heel, I designed a shoe that becomes what you want. Casual to elegant, unobtrusive or even loud. High or low.
It was important to me to design something that would fit from day to evening, something that anyone could wear with anything. It feels like the ultimate shoe for self-expression. ”
