It’s been over 30 years since the adidas Köln, with the item number 3156, hit the market. Back then, you could buy this shoe from the City Series for less than 100 DM.
adidas did not officially release this shoe under this series name; the term originated in the collector’s scene as a way to better categorize the models.
When naming the shoes, adidas drew inspiration from various sources. City names were very popular in the 1980s.
In the case of the “Köln,” the colorway and name appear to have been combined by chance. Soccer fans traveled halfway around the world to own one of these coveted shoes bearing a city name.
With the 1:1 reissue of the “Köln,” adidas Originals is bringing back a sought-after classic.
The shoe is crafted from high-quality suede. The confetti-print insert and the shoe box featuring the city coat of arms symbolize the tradition and diversity of the city of Cologne.
In collaboration with the Cologne-based independent brewery Gaffel, special packaging was designed to symbolize the connection to the city of Cologne and its history.
As a tribute to the adidas Köln, Sammler Quote and Alex from TGWO, together with artist Peter O’Toole, designed an insert booklet and poster that comes with every pair of shoes.
The adidas Köln was released on November 10, 2017, by TGWO. To accompany the release, there was also an exclusive long-sleeve T-shirt and a limited edition of Gaffel Kölsch bottles with a matching Gaffel Kölsch stein.
