On January 9, 2025, Vans and Carpet Company will release the Skate Old Skool 36+ — a reinterpretation of the classic Old Skool. This model is released through the Vans Checkerboard Union (VCU) and combines timeless design with modern upgrades.

The Old Skool 36+ skate is based on the original Style 36, which was first introduced in 1977 as the first version of the Old Skool. Key features include a single-layer Foxing border, a padded tongue for added comfort, and sturdy metal eyelets — everything to preserve the spirit of the iconic sneaker.

The focus is on performance: The shoe is equipped with shock-absorbing PopCush insoles, anti-slip SickStick rubber outsoles and durable Duracap overlays that guarantee both comfort and durability.

Each pair is individually numbered and limited to just 1,977 pieces — a tribute to the year in which the iconic Old Skool was first released.

The design of the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ from Carpet Company picks up on the original yellow-black color scheme of Style 36 and is made with high-quality materials such as artificial crocodile leather. This edition builds on the collaboration between Vans and Carpet in autumn 2024.

The collection is complemented by a baggy fit fleece sweater and pants with antique wash, a hologram logo patch and an individual carpet branding bag.

As you'd expect from Vans and Carpet Company, the Skate Old Skool 36+ features a number of unique details: individual labels with Arabic lettering, interchangeable Velcro patches on the tongue, intricate embroidery and punched rubber logos on the iconic Vans waffle sole.

The accompanying video campaign asks the question: Where would the icons of skate and music culture be if the Vans Old Skool had never been developed in 1977? To illustrate this concept, Vans and Carpet Company created a commercial inspired by the “butterfly effect” theory.

It presents alternate realities for legends such as J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Ray Barbee, Omar Hassan, Tony Alva, Ronnie Sandoval, Zion Wright, and others. The commercial shows which paths these cultural pioneers would have taken if the Old Skool had never existed.

The Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ from Carpet Company and the associated collection will be available in selected skate shops worldwide from January 9, 2025. Keep an eye on our Sneaker Releases.
