Die Wurzeln: Hip Hop und Vinyl

Die Geschichte von HHV beginnt Ende der 1990er Jahre – in einer Zeit also, in der die seltene Vinyl LP eben nicht nur einen Mausklick entfernt zu finden war. Hip Hop Musik aus den USA, gerade abseits des Mainstreams, war hierzulande nur schwer zu bekommen. Auf Vinyl kaufen konnte man sie damals kaum – schon gar nicht zu einem fairen Preis. Die Idee, das zu ändern, war dann 2002 der Grundstein zu dem, was heute HHV ist.

Vom Plattenladen zum Vinyl Online Shop

Was als kleiner Plattenladen in Berlin-Friedrichshain begann, wurde bald ein Online Shop. Musikalisch sollte es nicht bei Hip Hop und Rap bleiben. So erweiterte sich nach und nach das Angebot im Vinyl Shop von HHV, erst um die Genres Funk und Soul, später dann um zahlreiche weitere Musikrichtungen wie etwa House, Techno, Rock, Folk oder Jazz. Ob Stones Throw oder Melting Pot Music, ob Daptone Records, Warp Records oder XL Recordings – viele ganz unterschiedliche Plattenlabels haben im HHV Vinyl Shop ein Zuhause gefunden.

Vinyl Schallplatten aus dem eigenen Haus

Die Auswahlkriterien sind seither nicht mehr getragen von einem speziellen Stil, sondern zunehmend bestimmt durch Qualität. Diese ist auch Grundmotiv der Veröffentlichungen ihres Hauslabels HHV, das im Laufe ihrer sukzessiven Weiterentwicklung entstanden ist. Es ermöglicht ihnen, ebenso wie ihrem Label Project Mooncircle, eng mit Musikern und Labelbetreibern zusammenzuarbeiten und Releases nach eigenem Geschmack zu realisieren.

Wachstum über den Vinyl Shop hinaus

Doch nicht nur der Musikbereich erlebte in den vergangenen Jahren ein organisches Wachstum. Vielmehr vergrößerte sich allmählich das gesamte Sortiment von HHV. Zunächst ergänzte Band Merchandise das Repertoire, später kamen Bekleidung und Schuhe dazu. Heute ist HHV nicht mehr einzig ein Vinyl Shop, sondern zugleich auch ein Streetwear Shop und ein Sneaker Store. Accessoires, Equipment, Bücher und Zeitschriften runden das Angebot ab.

Streetwear und Urban Fashion von Top-Marken

In unserem Urban Fashion Shop führt HHV ein breites Markenspektrum, das Klassiker wie Carhartt WIP, Nike oder Stüssy ebenso abdeckt wie jüngere Brands – z.B. Wemoto, Ucon Acrobatics und HUF. Auch zeitgenössische Menswear Marken wie Wood Wood, Soulland und Libertine-Libertine haben bei HHV ihren Platz. Ständig verfolgen sie aktuelle Trends und holen frische Kollektionen in den Shop. So finden Modebewusste bei uns zeitgemäße Streetwear in stilsicheren Schnitten und Designs – von T-Shirts, Sweatern und Hoodies über Hosen, Hemden und Jacken bis hin zu Caps und Mützen. So sind sie dem Friedrichshainer Kiez von Anfang an treu geblieben und haben auch an ihrem Ladengeschäft, dem HHV Store, stets festgehalten. Sie feiern gerne bei Konzerten und Partys, am liebsten zusammen mit ihren Kunden. Zur Arbeit kommen sie mit dem Fahrrad und viele Mitarbeiter hat man auch schon einen Kinderwagen schieben sehen. Our roots: Hip Hop and Vinyl

The story of HHV begins in the late 1990s - in a time when the rare vinyl LP was not just a mouse click away. Hip Hop music from the USA, especially off the mainstream, was hard to come by in this country. You could hardly buy it on vinyl at that time - especially not at a fair price. The idea to change that was then in 2002 the foundation stone to what is HHV today.

From record store to vinyl online store

What started as a small record store in Berlin-Friedrichshain soon became an online store. Musically it should not remain with Hip Hop and Rap. So the offer in the vinyl store of HHV expanded little by little, first by the genres Funk and Soul, later then by numerous other music genres such as House, Techno, Rock, Folk or Jazz. Whether Stones Throw or Melting Pot Music, whether Daptone Records, Warp Records or XL Recordings - many very different record labels have found a home in our Vinyl Shop.

Since then, the selection criteria are no longer carried by a special style, but increasingly determined by quality. This is also the basic motive of the releases of our house label HHV, which has emerged in the course of our successive development. It enables us, just like our label Project: Mooncircle, to work closely with musicians and label owners and to realize releases according to our own taste.

Growth beyond the vinyl store

But not only the music business experienced an organic growth in the past years. Rather, HHV's entire product range gradually expanded. Initially, band merchandise supplemented the repertoire, later clothing and shoes were added. Today, HHV is no longer just a vinyl store, but also a streetwear store and a sneakers store. Accessories, equipment, books and magazines complete the offer.

In our Urban Fashion Shop we carry a wide range of brands, covering classics like Carhartt WIP, Nike or Stüssy as well as younger brands - e.g. Wemoto, Ucon Acrobatics and HUF. Contemporary menswear brands like Wood Wood, Soulland and Libertine-Libertine also have their place with us. We constantly follow current trends and bring fresh collections into the store. So fashionistas can find contemporary streetwear in stylish cuts and designs - from T-shirts, sweaters and hoodies to pants, shirts and jackets, caps and hats. The essence of HHV

Over the years, many things have changed at HHV. But we have always kept what makes us tick: the love and passion for vinyl, sneakers and urban fashion. In addition, quality and authenticity are among the core values that shape our mission statement. There is no "empire" behind HHV, but normal, down-to-earth people. Thus, we have remained loyal to the Friedrichshain neighborhood from the beginning and have always held on to our retail store, the HHV Store. We like to celebrate at concerts and parties, preferably together with our customers. We get to work by bike and many of us have been seen pushing a stroller. We plan for the future - in a very natural way.
