A: Wie lange bist Du schon im Sneakeruniversum, wie kamst Du da rein? Mit welchem Modell ging es los?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Ich glaube, ich interessiere mich schon seit meiner Kindheit f\u00fcr Turnschuhe und Mode, aber so richtig auf Turnschuhe fokussiert und mit gr\u00f6\u00dferem Interesse habe ich erst Ende 2011 angefangen. Ich sammle also schon seit etwa 10 Jahren oder so. <\/p>\n

Mein Einstieg war, wie bei vielen anderen auch, das Skateboarden, also war ich damals nat\u00fcrlich ein gro\u00dfer Fan von Dunks. Mein erstes Paar New Balance war der Jeff Staple 575 „White Pigeon“.<\/p>\n

A: Wie kam es zu Deiner Liebe f\u00fcr New Balance Sneaker?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Als mein Interesse an Turnschuhen wuchs und ich anfing, mich mehr f\u00fcr Qualit\u00e4t, Materialien und Ausf\u00fchrung zu interessieren, begann New Balance f\u00fcr mich, sich von den anderen abzuheben. Wenn ich die Qualit\u00e4t von „Made in USA“ und „UK“ mit anderen Sneakern auf dem Markt verglich, waren sie f\u00fcr mich der Gewinner. <\/p>\n

Damals war es auch sehr schwer, sie in Neuseeland zu bekommen, und wenn es sie gab, waren die St\u00fcckzahlen extrem begrenzt, was mir gefiel, weil es etwas Ungew\u00f6hnliches war und etwas, das andere nicht hatten. Damals war es sehr selten, jemanden zu sehen, der NBs trug.<\/p>\n

A: Wenn Du Deine eigene New Balance-Collab machen k\u00f6nntest, f\u00fcr welches Modell w\u00fcrdest Du Dich entscheiden?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Ich liebe die Runner der 80er Jahre, wobei der 1300er f\u00fcr mich ganz oben auf der Liste steht. Ich w\u00fcrde gerne an einem 1300er arbeiten, er ist einfach ein toller Schuh. Er wird schon seit einiger Zeit nicht mehr in England hergestellt, aber damals wurden einige tolle Paare produziert.<\/p>\n

MW&K: Made in England 1300, ganz klar!<\/p>\n

A: Was h\u00e4ltst Du davon, dass New Balance eines der wenigen Unternehmen ist, welches nicht nur in Asien produziert?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Das war einer der wichtigsten Punkte, die mich anfangs zu der Marke hingezogen haben. Ihr Fokus auf Qualit\u00e4t und Exzellenz war klar zu erkennen. Die Qualit\u00e4t sowohl der in Gro\u00dfbritannien als auch der in den USA hergestellten Schuhe ist erstklassig.<\/p>\n

A: Hast Du ein New Balance Made in UK<\/em> Lieblingsmodell ? <\/p>\n

MW&K: Der 1300 ist mein absolutes Lieblingsmodell, das in mehreren L\u00e4ndern hergestellt wurde, aber die von Flimby hergestellten Paare geh\u00f6ren zu meinen Favoriten. Vor allem das Flimby Pack von 2010. Ich habe alle drei Paare und sie sind fantastisch!<\/p>\n

MW&K: Es gibt so viele, besonders bei den 1500ern, aber eine die ich auch tats\u00e4chlich in meiner Sammlung habe: Der Hanon M1500CHF „Chosen Few“. Die Farbkombination und die Materialien sind perfekt.<\/p>\n

MW&K: Ich habe das Gl\u00fcck, t\u00e4glich Sneaker tragen zu k\u00f6nnen, was sehr sch\u00f6n ist. Ab und zu sieht man mich aber auch in Chelsea Boots.<\/p>\n

MW&K: Das letzte Paar, das ich gekauft habe, war der ASICS x HAL Studios Gel-1130, ich bin ein gro\u00dfer Fan davon!<\/p>\n

MW&K: Es gibt ein paar Paare, bei denen ich bereue, sie nicht gekauft zu haben. Ich erinnere mich, dass es vor vielen Jahren ein Paar DS Air Max 1 von Patta f\u00fcr ziemlich wenig Geld gab, das Cord-Paar. Sie lagen ewig herum und ich habe sie nie gekauft. Jetzt sind sie so unerschwinglich.<\/p>\n

MW&K: Ich bin Teil einer lokalen Sneaker-Facebook-Gruppe, Sole Central, bei der ich einmal einer der Administratoren war. Wir hatten schon lange kein Sneaker-Event mehr. <\/p>\n

Ich habe ein paar gute Freunde, die sich auch f\u00fcr Turnschuhe interessieren, also trinken wir oft Kaffee und reden \u00fcber alles, was mit Turnschuhen zu tun hat, was cool ist.<\/p>\n

A: Welches NB-Modell ist Deiner Meinung nach zu Unrecht unter dem Radar? Lange Zeit konnte man das ja \u00fcber fast s\u00e4mtliche Basketball-Modelle sagen, das hat sich ja nun sowas von ge\u00e4ndert… <\/p>\n

MW&K: Wenn wir \u00fcber Modelle sprechen, die derzeit in Produktion sind, denke ich, dass der 1500er massiv untersch\u00e4tzt wird. In den letzten Jahren sind einige wundersch\u00f6ne Paare auf den Markt gekommen, die man einfach verschlafen hat. <\/p>\n

Unter Enthusiasten war der 1500er schon immer ein Favorit, aber er wurde von der breiten Masse nicht so gut angenommen. Ich denke, dass die keilige Form, die wir fr\u00fcher so geliebt haben, allgemein in Ungnade gefallen ist.<\/p>\n

MW&K: In der Vergangenheit waren die 1300er mein Hauptaugenmerk, irgendwann hatte ich etwa 45 Paar 1300er. Heute ist meine Sammlung etwas vielf\u00e4ltiger und ich habe Sachen von verschiedenen Marken. Ich habe eine Mischung aus einigen Klassikern und neueren Sachen, die ich sehr mag.<\/p>\n

A: Wie bewahrst Du Deine Sammlung auf?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Ich habe etwa 16 Paare, die in meiner aktuellen Rotation auf einem Regal am unteren Ende meines Kleiderschranks sind und der Rest ist in ihren Boxen oben in meinem Schrank gestapelt. Das macht es ein bisschen m\u00fchsam, an sie heranzukommen, aber es ist alles gut.<\/p>\n

A: Gibt es einen Trend in der Sneakerszene, den du vermisst oder \u00fcber den du froh bist, dass er vorbei ist? <\/p>\n

Um ehrlich zu sein, vermisse ich die Zeiten, in denen sich niemand f\u00fcr New Balance interessierte, weil es nicht die Hype-Marke war. Gleichzeitig ist es toll, dass die Marke jetzt ihre Zeit in der Sonne hat.<\/p>\n

A: Welchen Trend siehst Du am Horizont?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Es ist schwer zu sagen, manchmal gibt es Mikrotrends, die kommen und gehen, und dann wieder andere, wie der aktuelle Basketballtrend, bei dem der Dunk und der 550er zum Mainstream werden. Ich sehe eine Menge Energie, die sich um Hiking-Silhouetten aufbaut, aber ob das zum Mainstream wird oder nicht, wei\u00df ich nicht.<\/p>\n

A: Reinigst Du Deine Sneaker, und wenn ja, wie? <\/p>\n

MW&K: Nicht oft genug. Ich habe die schlechte Angewohnheit, die schmutzigen Schuhe zur Seite zu legen und etwas anderes zu tragen. Wenn ich sie reinige, nehme ich warmes Wasser, ein paar Tropfen Seife und eine weiche B\u00fcrste mit Borsten. Manchmal reicht auch ein feuchter Wisch \u00fcber die Zwischensohlen.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Bist Du penibel? Zum Beispiel Lacing, Matching der Kleidung etc? <\/p>\n

MW&K: Auf jeden Fall! Ich achte nicht so sehr auf passende Farben, sondern eher auf weite Hosen und die Abstimmung dieser auf die Sneaker. Auch bei den Schn\u00fcrsenkeln bin ich akribisch, ich schn\u00fcre ein neues Paar gerne neu, wenn ich es bekomme, um sicherzustellen, dass die Schn\u00fcrung in Ordnung ist.<\/p>\n

A: Hast Du Sneaker-Rituale, zum Beispiel beim Auspacken eines neuen Modells?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Genau wie oben in Bezug auf die Schn\u00fcrung. Ab Werk scheinen die Schn\u00fcrsenkel immer durch das zweite Loch zu kommen, aber ich ziehe es vor, dass meine immer von oben kommen, au\u00dfer nat\u00fcrlich durch das letzte Loch.<\/p>\n

A: Auf welche Neuerscheinung freust Du Dich im Moment? <\/p>\n

MW&K: Die New Balance Made in USA-Kollektion von Teddy Santis hat einige wirklich sch\u00f6ne Paare, ich habe noch keine, aber wir werden sehen, was das Jahr bringt. Ich bin auch ein Fan des kommenden JJJJound x ASICS Gel-Kayano 14. Er ist unaufdringlich und ein tolles Modell.<\/p>\n

A: Wie wichtig sind f\u00fcr dich „echte Sneaker-Stores“ im Vergleich zum Online-Handel (z.B. direkt beim Hersteller bestellen)?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Es ist wirklich schwer, ein echtes Gesch\u00e4ft zu \u00fcbertreffen. Man sp\u00fcrt die Leidenschaft und die Liebe zum Detail, die man online nicht bekommt. Es ist auch sch\u00f6n, in ein Gesch\u00e4ft zu gehen und den Schuh in die Hand zu nehmen oder anzuprobieren, bevor man ihn kauft. <\/p>\n

Da sieht man die kleinen Details, die man auf Bildern nicht sieht.<\/p>\n

A: Hast Du schonmal aus Versehen einen Fake gekauft? <\/p>\n

MW&K: Vor vielen Jahren nur zweimal. Einmal war es ein privater Kauf, ich hatte schon vorher mit dem Mann zu tun und vertraute ihm aus irgendeinem Grund, ich glaube, ich habe nicht einmal Bilder gesehen. <\/p>\n

Leider erkannte er nicht, dass es sich um eine F\u00e4lschung handelte, da er kein Turnschuhkenner war. Es war ein Paar Steel Blue 999’s der Kith Kollaboration.<\/p>\n

MW&K: Ich versuche, alle zu tragen, aber es gibt viele Paare, die ich nur ein- oder zweimal getragen habe, und ein paar Paare, die ich noch nicht getragen habe. Ich bin w\u00e4hlerisch, wann und wo ich bestimmte Paare trage. Mit denjenigen, die mir mehr wert sind, bin ich vorsichtiger.<\/p>\n

A: Who are you? Can you briefly introduce yourself?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Hi everyone my name is Adrian or on Instagram @mywifeandkicks<\/a>. I am based in Auckland New Zealand.<\/p>\n

A: How long have you been in the sneaker universe, how did you get into it? With which model did you start? <\/p>\n

MW&K: I think I have had an interest in sneakers and fashion since I was a kid but in terms of a real focus on sneakers and taking a bigger interest it would be late 2011. So I have been collecting for around 10 + years or so. <\/p>\n

My entry point like a lot of people was skateboarding so naturally back then I was big into dunks. My first pair of New Balance was the Jeff Staple 575 \u201cWhite Pigeon\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u200d<\/p>\n

A: How did you fall in love with New Balance shoes? <\/p>\n

MW&K: As my interest in sneakers grew and I began to take more of an interest in quality, materials and execution New Balance began to stand apart from the rest for me. When I compared the quality of Made in USA and UK to other pairs on the market it was a winner for me. <\/p>\n

Back then it was also very hard to get them in NZ and when they did come the numbers were extremely limited, this appealed to me as it was more obscure and something others didn`t have. Back then it was very rare to spot someone wearing NBs.<\/p>\n

\u200d<\/p>\n

A: If you could do your own New Balance Collab, what model would you choose? <\/p>\n

MW&K: I love 80\u2019s runners with the 1300 being top of the list for me. I\u2019d love to work on a 1300, it’s just such a great shoe. It hasn’t been made in England for some time but when it was some amazing pairs were produced.<\/p>\n

A: Bring it back. Which New Balance model should make a comeback? <\/p>\n

MW&K: Made in England 1300, hands down!<\/p>\n

\u200d<\/p>\n

A: How is your view on New Balance being one of a few companies not producing in Asia only?<\/p>\n

MW&K: That was one of the big things that drew me to the brand initially. Their focus on quality and excellence was clear to see. The quality of both UK and USA made pairs are next level.<\/p>\n

A: Do you have Flimby made model favorite?<\/p>\n

MW&K: The 1300 is my all time favourite model which has been made in several countries but the Flimby made pairs are some of my favourite. In particular, the Flimby Pack from 2010. I have all three pairs and they are amazing!<\/p>\n

A: Do you have a Flimby made favorite collab?<\/p>\n

MW&K: There are so many especially when it comes to the 1500’s but I will select a pair I have in my collection. The Hanon M1500CHF \u201cChosen Few\u201d. The colour combination and materials are perfect.<\/p>\n

A: What do you wear when you are not wearing sneakers?<\/p>\n

MW&K: I’m fortunate enough to be able to wear sneakers daily which is nice. There is the odd time you will catch me in some chelsea boots though.<\/p>\n

A: Which sneaker did you buy last?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Last pair I bought would be the ASICS x HAL Studios Gel-1130, big fan of those!<\/p>\n

A: Which sneaker are you wearing right now?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Currently I am at home isolating so I’m walking around in socks, haha. Last pair I wore was the M2002RAW (Warm Alpaca)<\/p>\n

A: Which sneaker do you mourn, i.e. which one did you ditch and then regret?<\/p>\n

MW&K: There are a few pairs I regret not buying. I remember many years ago there was a DS pair of Patta Air Max 1\u2019s for pretty cheap, the corduroy pair. They were sitting for ages and I never bought them. Now they are so unaffordable. <\/p>\n

A: Are you a member of a \u201cSneaker Stammtisch\u201d \/ Sneaker Community? <\/p>\n

MW&K: I am part of a local sneaker Facebook group Sole Central that at one point I was one of the admins of. We haven’t really had a sneaker event as such for a while. I have a few good friends that are into sneakers too so we often drink coffee and chat all things sneakers which is cool.<\/p>\n

\u200d<\/p>\n

A: Which NB model do you think is unjustly under the radar? (I myself think that it was any Basketball model for a long time, but this changed as well\u2026. \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n

MW&K: If we are talking about models that are currently in production I think the 1500 is massively underrated. Over the last couple of years there have been some amazing pairs coming out that have just been slept on. <\/p>\n

As far as enthusiasts go the 1500 has always been a fan favourite but it hasn’t been seeing alot of love from the masses. I think in general that sharp shape we used to love has fallen out of favour.<\/p>\n

A: Does your collection have a focus?<\/p>\n

MW&K: In the past the 1300 was my main focus, at one point I had around 45 pairs of 1300s. Today my collection is a little more varied and I have stuff from a few different brands. I\u2019ve got a mix of some classics and then newer stuff I really like.<\/p>\n

A: How do you store your collection?<\/p>\n

MW&K: I\u2019ve got around 16 pairs that are in my current rotation on a shelf at the bottom of my wardrobe and the rest are all in their boxes stacked up in the top of my cupboard. Makes them a bit of a pain to get to but it\u2019s all good.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Is there a trend in the sneaker scene that you miss or are glad to see gone?<\/p>\n

MW&K: To be honest I miss the days when no one cared for NB when it wasn\u2019t the hype brand. At the same time it\u2019s great for the brand to have it`s time in the sun.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: What trend do you see on the horizon?`<\/p>\n

MW&K: It\u2019s hard to say, sometimes there are micro trends that come and go and then others like the current basketball trend seeing the Dunk and 550s go mainstream. I see a lot of energy building around hiking type silhouettes but whether that will hit mainstream or not I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

A: Do you clean your sneakers, if so how?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Not often enough, I\u2019ve got a bad habit of putting the dirty ones aside and wearing something else. When I do I use warm water, a few drops of soap and a soft bristle brush. Other times a wet wipe on the midsoles is enough.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Are you meticulous? For example, lacing, matching clothes, etc?<\/p>\n

MW&K: For sure! Not so much into matching colours but more wide pants with the right shape sneakers etc. Also meticulous with lacing, like to relace a new pair when I get them to make sure the lacing is all right.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Do you have rituals, for example when unpacking a new shoe?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Just as above in regards to lacing. The factory seems to always have laces come up through the second hole but I prefer mine to always come from the top through except the last one of course.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Which release are you looking forward to right now?<\/p>\n

MW&K: The New Balance Made in USA collection by Teddy Santis has some really nice pairs, I haven’t got any yet but we will see what the year brings. Also a fan of the upcoming JJJJound x ASICS Gel-Kayano 14. It\u2019s subtle and a great model.<\/p>\n

A: How important are „real sneaker stores“ to you compared to online retail (ordering directly from the manufacturer for example)?<\/p>\n

MW&K: It\u2019s really hard to beat a real store. There is always a passion and attention to detail you don’t really get online. It\u2019s also nice to be able to walk into a store and see the shoe in person before you buy it. You get to see the little details you don’t pick up in pictures.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Have you ever „accidentally“ bought a fake sneaker?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Only twice many years ago. One was in a trade, I had dealt with the guy before so trusted him for some reason I don’t think I even saw pictures. Unfortunately he didn’t realise they were fake as he wasn’t a sneaker guy. It was a pair of Steel Blue 999\u2019s the Kith collab.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A: Do you wear all your sneakers or are there some that are „too good for the street“?<\/p>\n

MW&K: I try to wear all of them but there are alot of pairs I have only worn once or twice and a few pairs that I haven’t yet worn. I am selective of when and where I wear certain pairs. The ones more valuable to me I am more careful with.<\/p>\n

A: Do you have a sneaker anecdote you would like to share?<\/p>\n

MW&K: Wear what you like, not what you think you should like.<\/p>\n
